Continuing of SVS - help asked for a list of fresh variants
#1
Hi all,

I am still alive!
In the last (almost) two years, I have been busy with a lot of other things in life, beside puzzling. I have written piles of puzzles for our National Sudoku Championships and for the website of WCPN, but since you all know, SVS was on hold. For longer than I intended.

Two weeks ago I participated in WSPC in Beijing in the Dutch B-team and for that occasion I prepared a few practise sudokus for the team for some new (to me) variants.

In the months before Beijing I was busy with the Dutch championships 2025 and now I am in a writing flow. It's time to pick up SVS again...

The portal of LMD has been a great source of inspiration, so that was the place I started searching for new variants, but I encountered an immediate problem: a vast amount of puzzles is published every day, but the majority of those puzzles are hybrids. For SVS I am looking for 'Single rule'-sudokus. That seems to be a search for a needle in a haystack.

So here is a shout-out for help: Can you provide me the links to new Single-rule sudokus that are published here in the portal in the past two years? Otherwise searching for these myself  will consume costly time that I prefer to spend in writing new puzzles.

Thanks in advance!
Best regards, Richard

Is it helpful if we list puzzles that feature a useful rule components here as we come across them? Even if it's in the context of a hybrid?

E.g. today I ran across

* Friendly: all cells where the column or row matches the value are circled https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/R...?id=000JU5
* Kropki (local negativity): Kropki, with all dots given within cages https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/R...?id=000JU5
* Schrödinger: 9x9 grid with digits 0-9, each row and column has exactly one cell with two digits https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/R...?id=000JLP
* Nabner cages: Killer, but the cages are "anti-renban" https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/R...?id=000JLP

Hi rob,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, such a list would be helpful indeed. Just provide a link here in this forum thread or send me a PM is sufficient.
Many rules used in hybrids can also act as single rule sudokus.

Hi bigger,
WSPC was a nice event, as usual. Well organized!
I am not so good in recognizing authors signatures, so no idea if Old Miles' puzzles were present of not and if they were different from the other authors.
Almost all sudokus were of great quality.
Favorites were the ones with cool designs or twists; there were no puzzles I 'hated' but I am not so fond of blackout variants and 3D variants. Kropkis and consecutives had an abundance of dots, but apart from that, I really enjoyed myself.  Smile

Not from the portal but the DSM 2024: One way, invented by Markus Roth; on https://logic-masters.de/DSM/2024/raetsel.php you find beside the example two of them in round 1 and in the final. Of course there have been more new variants in the last DSMs, but this one I especially like.

"Entropy Sudoku", from 2021, I guess this might still be new for SVS? https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/R...?id=0008G7

Two years ago I made this puzzle for Christmas:
https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/R...?id=000CEZ
It has multiple rules and is encrypted, but maybe they can be used separately with numeric clues as well, I'm not sure.

Hi Lizzy,
Thanks for your suggestion. I'll take a look at it soon.

Silent killer and Silent little killer should make for good stand-alone variants: https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/R...?id=000GXZ
