Drawing attention to a specific user and their detrimental behaviour
#61
Well, thank you for your kind words about the site in general. Unfortunately, though, while you are rather polite about it, what your post comes down to - at least to me - is yet again another instance of a new site user talking about their own needs. So you want "more people to solve" your puzzles, you compare how many people solved here and on a sudoku specific site, and you fear that it's a low rating that keeps more puzzle portal users from solving your sudoku.

Maybe that is the reason. Or maybe, it's just the sheer number of puzzles being released here - it's been 22 puzzles within the past day. Who would have the time to solve and rate all those? I don't know (or care) how many puzzles were created on Sven's Sudoku pad, but if it has been less than over 20 in a day, then maybe that's your answer for why there's been more solvers over there than here. Or its because its a different site with a different audience. *shrug*

Now, you do offer to make donations to LMD. You are very welcome to do so.... but please don't expect us using those donations to make any of the demanded changes to the puzzle portal. As Hausigel already mentioned above, it's not about money,.. the limitation is manpower. LMD has only a small webteam, whose primary job is to make sure that the contest engine runs smoothly, that the informative areas of the site are kept up to date and that member data is protected. The puzzle portal is only an addendum that is not our top priority.

LMD has a charter with a clearly defined mission statement. https://logic-masters.de/Verein/satzung.php
Here's a translated version of the most important paragraph.

LMD schrieb:§2 Tasks and purpose of the association
1. the purpose of the association is to represent Germany in international puzzle competitions and to promote and disseminate logical and mathematical puzzles in sporting competitions. The purpose of the association is realized in particular by

a) the adoption of international competition rules
b) the development of national competition rules
c) the organization and implementation of championships
d) organizing the participation of German teams in international championships
e) the promotion of promising talents
f) public relations work for the purpose of increasing the popularity of logical puzzles and
g) informing the members
h) networking among the members.

The puzzle portal isn't mentioned anywhere among these mission statements, it's not mentioned in the entire charter. As already explained, it's just been a by-product. When the portal was first created, it was used for h) networking among members... and also some non-members, who have significantly grown in number since. You're all welcome still, but at the end of the day it's our house and our rules. (or maybe our barely attended backyard) You're welcome to use it, but don't expect us to go out of our way to make sure that any or all of your needs are fulfilled. That's - simply put - not part of our mission statement.

As current head of LMD's board, I can tell you that there are currently no plans to change the portal's rating system or to alter/restrict user access. Also, at his time, we are not looking for suggestions how to "improve" the puzzle portal. If we might be open for that in the future, we will let you know.

(Would one of the forum moderators please lock this thread? Thank you)
