ABC'tje
#1
Hi All,

I hope you have fun with my puzzle 'ABC'tje'.

If you get stuck, or have problems solving it, or can't get started at all, don't hesitate to ask questions on this forum. I'll be glad to answer you.

Next week I will post a walkthrough here on the forum.

Freundliche Grüsse,
Richard

PS: This one is still an easy puzzle. It can get (much) harder if you want...

Start is easy (2 letters values are obvious), but later it takes some calculations to get results ...

Hi all,

As promised, here is a 'walkthrough' for my ABC'tje.
I received a PN from someone who got stuck, and I know that he is very well able to solve this kind of puzzles. So maybe it was a bit too hard. Anyhow, here we go:

michaela - michael; a = 11
marina - maria; n = 7
annette - a - n; te = 37
baars - aa; brs = 47
bartelsen-brs-et-a-n; el = 30
axel; x = 21
boser- brs; oe = 35
ballas - a; blls = 37
oliver - el; vior = 58
arvid - a; vidr = 35
brs versus blls; LL + 10 = R :=> L max. 8

With these subresult we can create a table:

L E O T D R
8 22 13 15 21 26
7 23 12 14 20 24
6 24 11 13 19 22
5 25 10 12 18 20
4 26 9 11 17 18

Because of the values already used, only the line of L = 5 is valid and we know immediately 6 letters.

We go on:
terwen; w = 26
radtke; k = 15
doerffer; f = 13
gross; gss = 64
G and S maximal 24 (25 and 26 are used)
G has to be even
New table:
G S
24 20
22 21
20 22
18 23
16 24
Because of used values: G = 16; S = 24

Ellinger; i = 9
brs; b = 3
vior; v = 19
helge; h = 17
maria; m = 23
michael; c = 6
claudia; u = 4
jung; j = 22
strempel; p = 8
krzysztof; yzz = 5
Values left: 1, 2, 14
Y = 1; Z = 2

And finally left: Q = 14

I hope you had fun with it.

I have another idea in mind for a nice 'optimising puzzler names puzzle' and will work it out in my summer holiday. I will send it to Berni afterwards.

Regards,
Richard

nice puzzler thank you richard.
it took me the whole friday to solve because i mad a mistake in the first row.
had 35 for "et" instead 37 and i started at the beginnig after using seven sheats of paper (both sides!!!) with no solve. but then it was almost easy. did it the same way you discribe.

if you want give us another one it was fun.

It might be better to send it to webteam @ logic-masters . de; because then Michael Smit who is responsible for the website will recieve the puzzle directly. This is also better, because I'll be in holidays for some weeks...

OK Berni,
I won't send it to you.
I'm on holiday in august, so it will take a while...

Question:
Did people find a shorter route through the puzzle, or has everyone solved it in (roughly) the same way as I described?

And was it too easy? OK? Too hard?

Richard

Well... in the end I thought this was (just a little bit) easy. In the beginning I got stuck... but afterwards it was only the "step" to calculate the X which caused any problems Biggrin

So... this puzzle was Ok

Vriendelijke groet,
Arvid
