Specifically,
in the context of my little (spare time) side project “The Syntax of Sudoku”, I made an interesting observation about some grids (-> triplets), but what started out as taking notes grew into something slightly bigger, see attachment. Now I don’t expect you to read the whole thing, but I have 2 questions some of you might be able to answer:
(i) Has anyone ever examined the triplet perspective the way I do, see pp. 10-11? Can you recommend any reading material/article potentially pertaining to that issue (or something else I should be aware of)?
(ii) My demonstration that boxrow (or boxcolumn) triplet count can only be 3 or 9, see Section 3.2 – has that been shown before? I know that the case n=3 is used in Cracking the Cryptic as a solving strategy (referred to as ‘roping’ if I remember correctly) … but the point is that knowing that n can only be 3 or 9 is an even more powerful solving strategy. So if anyone has done that before, could you give me some reference?
As an aside, in case it has not already been done, I also think this construal lends itself to an interesting way of creating puzzles (see Appendix A); maybe some of you setters out there would like to give it a try …
