WPF Sudoku Grand Prix - Questions and Answers
#1
The German part of the WPF Sudoku Grand Prix will be held on February 23th and February 24th. The contest page including instruction file will be ready soon:

http://www.logic-masters.de/DSM/qualifikation.php

Click on the UK flag in the top right corner for an English translation of the contest page. Note that some parts of the website are not (yet) translated into English; we hope that this will not cause any problems. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them.

To get some practice with the handling of contests on this page, try http://www.logic-masters.de/Wettbewerbe/. You can find a list of all former contests on Logic Masters Deutschland; most of them are free to try. For example, at http://www.logic-masters.de/Wettbewerbe/....php?id=31 you can practice the online qualification for the German Sudoku championship 2012 - a contest very similar to this year's.

As soon as the instructions are online, you can ask any questions regarding the puzzles here as well.

Hi,

After a quick reading I have one remark, about puzzle 11 (X-Summen Sudoku): either my english is worse than I thought, or it isn't said explicitely that clues correspond to the sum of the first X digits in the considered direction. Of course this is quite obvious to deduce but making the sentence more clear might avoid some confusion.

Bonjour Bastien,

I haven't seen the IB yet, but you are right about this rule. Indeed the first X digits are meant.

Yours, Richard

I agree - the intention is clear, the rules are not.

How about this:
The numbers outside the grid represent the sum of the first X digits in the respective row or column, with X being the digit in the first cell of that row or column.

I think it is much better indeed. Now looking forward to see what Richard has prepared us!

One question that was suggested to me: will there be exactly 16 sudokus to solve, or do we have to expect several puzzles for some types (in particular Standard sudoku)?

Thanks again,

Bastien

The rules of No. 5 seem to be clear, but I still find the term "Kropki" a little bit irritating in this case. Imho a puzzle shouldn't be named after a standard, if it doesn't use its full set of rules.

But I also think "4er Außensummen Diagonalsudoku mit schwarzen Pünktchen" is not a good name either Wink

There are 6 standard sudokus and 15 variants, one of each. The points for each puzzle will be published soon.

I received a question concerning the time-frame. I think the contest is open on 23rd and 24th of february CET, which is one hour difference with GMT.
Maybe it is a good idea to write which time-zone is the actual one, to avoid disappointments. Wink
