kurze Verständnisfrage: Es ist so gedacht, dass man das Quasi wie ein normales Rätsel mit Papier und Bleistift optimiert? Oder mit dem Excel? Oder sind gar zusätzliche Computerprogramme erlaubt?

Ich zitiere aus den Regeln des Optimier-Wettbewerbs, der in diesem Jahr sein zehnjähriges Jubiläum feiert:

- The tasks will be announced at the beginning of the month, and time period for solving them is ~15 days

- To make the solving of the optimization easier, tasks are prepared as excel files, with formulas for automatic score calculation. Completed tasks should be copied and sent to the editor by an email

- Completed tasks can be sent more than once until the specified deadline elapses and competitors who send completed tasks can see all the results arrived to that point

Man lädt sich also die auf das jeweilige Problem zugeschnittene Excel-Datei herunter und füllt sie mit einem Lösungsvorschlag aus. Das erzielte Punktergebnis wird vom Programm automatisch errechnet und angezeigt.
Mit dem ersten Einsenden einer Lösung (d.h. des bearbeiteten Excel-Blattes) per Mail an den Autor Jovan Novakovic (puzzles@sbb.rs) erhält man Einblick in die Punktergebnisse der Konkurrenz und kann dann etwa 14 Tage lang mit ihnen in den Wettbewerb treten.
 
Mir macht das Optimieren unvermindert großen Spaß.
